Slowest job growth in 2 years

A government report shows that April was the slowest period for job growth in over 2 years. About half of the new jobs were reported in April than were reported in March. Two of the four months in 2007 have seen less than 100,000 new jobs which is the lowest growth since late 2003.

As expected the construction industry was hit by the slow down in home building. There was 11,000 less jobs available in this area.

Retailers saw 26,000 less jobs due to the obvious slow down in consumer spending.

A bit more concerning is the continued move upwards of the unemployment rate which is now at 4.5%. There were 77,000 new people applying for unemployment.
