Can I transfer an appraisal?

In the past, it was common to request a transfer of appraisal. However, in recent times many appraisers are shying away from this, especially if the appraisal was paid for by the lender not the borrower. This is because the lender ordered the appraisal, and paid for it, therefore they own it. As a result, any lender paid for appraisals are not transferable. However, if the borrower pays for the appraisal, it is customary for an appraiser to reissue a new appraisal in another lender?s name upon request. Appraisers will charge a fee for this and it may or may not be a reduced fee.
