Affordable Housing Markets

As the fourth quarter numbers come in there are reports indicating that 41% of Americas housing markets are affordable for the average American. Where are these markets?

Unfortunately, the vast majority of these markets are places most of us would not consider living. Indianapolis is the most affordable housing market in the country with an average home value of $113,000 and an average income of $65,000. While that is an excellent ratio I personally would not consider Indianapolis to be a desirable place to live and raise a family. To further fuel my opinion here is some of the other markets considered affordable:

Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, Ohio-Pennsylvania.; Detroit-Livonia-Dearborn, Michigan; Toledo, Ohio; and Buffalo-Niagara Falls, New York.

As expected, the Los Angeles metro area is considered the least affordable market in the country with an average home value of $525,000 and an average income of $56,200.
